Today we bring you the penultimate blog post about the best Cantabria campsites. But do not worry about it because we still have plenty of campsites and activities to enjoy before we finish the series. So, get comfy, because today’s post is full of handy information!

PLAYA DE LA ISLA CAMPSITE

This is an oldie but goodie, as its more than 30 years of experience, and constant renovations have made the campsite offer a unique blend of services in some of the most modern facilities in the region.

If you finally decide to visit this campsite, you will be the best of both worlds. An incredible location, only 15 minutes walk from the old city center of Isla, and top services all year round.

CAMPSITE INFORMATION

GPS coordinates: 43º 30′ 04» N 3º 32′ 28″ W

Address: C/ Ampilla 1 – 39195 Isla, Cantabria, España

Phone: +34 942 67 93 61

Web: link

ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY ISLA (CANTABRIA) WITH YOUR MOTROHOME

SANTOÑA (14 km) AND MONTE BUCIERO

If you haven’t been living in Spain for a long time, maybe you haven’t heard of the famous anchovies of Santoña, but let us tell you that if you have the opportunity, you should try them. However, the city of Santoña has much more to offer than anchovies, and there is no better way of discovering its rich history than by taking one of the free tours that the city offers during the summer months. If you want more information about the city tours in the local Tourist Office, they will tell you all about it.

Source http://www.turismosantona.es

In addition to the city, the visitors can enjoy the natural surrounds of this city, by doing some of the hiking routes available. We especially recommend the Monte Buciero, as it has several hiking trails that run through cliffs and holm oak forests.

Download the brochure of the hiking trails. Download

SANTANDER (45km)

Of course, we couldn’t finish today’s post without talking about the capital of Cantabria, Santander. If you would like to do some cultural tourism we recommend you to start with the Cultural Ring of Santander which comprises the Interpretation Center of history, the archaeological center of the Medieval Wall, and the Museum of Archaeology and Prehistory (MUPAC). If instead, you prefer to enjoy the city you cannot miss the Magdalena Palace, and Sardinero Beach.

For the moment we are going to conclude this little post here, but do not worry because we have more posts coming about the beautiful region of Cantabria.

Finally, and before we leave if you want us to write about something in particular just let us know in the comments!

When the temperature starts to drop, and bad weather makes its appearance, the first question that comes to mind is if we should change our current tires for their winter version. The answer to this question will depend on several elements. So, if you want to know if you should put some winter wheels keep reading.

Winter wheels for motorhomes

If putting tire chains in any vehicle can be a hard and complex process, imagine how hard it will be with a motorhome. This is when winter tires come to the rescue. Because even though we associate its use with roads full of snow, their benefits can be found even in the absence of snow. This is because when temperatures drop, the winter wheels can maintain grip and traction on slippery terrain, thus ensuring a safe driving experience.

How to use the winter wheels?

It is recommended to change all four wheels, by doing this we are avoiding the unbalancing of the rear axle, and making sure that we enjoy an efficient drive. Additionally, experts advise changing the tires approximately every 6 years.

What wheels should I choose?

When the wheels in our vehicle are in poor condition that could translate into having serious problems on the road. Therefore, choosing the right wheels for our motorhome is key, and should not be overlooked.

Specific tires for your motorhome: In these cases, the manufacturers use the initials CP (camper, camping) to distinguish them from the rest. Also, if you see that it has the initial M+S this means that it is also prepared for winter conditions. Despite having the initial CP or M+S engraved you must be wondering what are the differences with a regular tire. First of all, they are prepared to support a larger amount of weight per axle, and secondly, they have more layers which directly translates into a bigger reinforcement.

Motorhome winter wheels: In this case, the materials used for their fabrication are designed to maintain their flexibility even at low temperatures. By doing so they can maintain a higher grip than in the case of any conventional tires. Additionally, their design patterns and studs make sure that the vehicle can maintain its traction in both snow and ice.

Now that you know everything about winter wheels, you are ready to enjoy your motorhome all year round. Lastly don’t forget to drive safely and enjoy the journey.

Autumn is a magical season, the trees are filled with ocher and reddish colors, the wind starts to blow a little more, and there is nothing better than a warm cup of coffee to enjoy the coziness of this new weather. Throughout these months some places get a special charm, so get ready to discover the best villages to get lost this autumn with your motorhome.

Park and visit Sajazarra (La Rioja)

This beauty is located in La Rioja Alta, more specifically in the Hara region, and around the rivers of Aguanaval and Ea. With its pointed arches and city walls, Sajazarra is the perfect example of a medieval village. If you decide to visit this lovely place we cannot recommend enough its impressive castle-palace. This building was constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries, and to this day remains in perfect condition of preservation. Once you are done with the visit to the castle-palace, you should take a walk through town, since you will be amazed by some of its constructions, like the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción, which dates back to the year 1171 and has the peculiarity of having a balcony on its tower, also going for a walk along the river is the perfect excuse to experience the autumn feeling.

Visiting Sajazarra this autumn with your motorhome has never been easier. You can spend the night in the local motorhome area which has 10 parking spots and it is free of charge, just remember that the maximum authorized stay is 72 hours and that deploying any camping elements is forbidden.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Baeza (Jaén, Andalucía)

Full of monuments, traditions, and life Andalucía is one of the most magical regions in Spain, however, due to the high standards that this part of Spain has accustomed us, some of its smaller towns can go unnoticed. In this case today we wanted to tell you about the charming town of Baeza, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In this city, the churches, palaces, manor houses, porticoes, towers, and fountains seem to be taken out directly from a fairy tale. However, the absolute musts are the Plaza de Santa María, the Cathedral of la Natividad de Nuestra Señora (which was built on an old mosque), the seminary of San Felipe Neri, the fountain of Santa María, the church of Santa Cruz, and the palace of Jabalquinto. As you can see the list is long, but in a city like Baeza, it is almost impossible to narrow it down any more. Once you have visited all the amazing places that this town has to offer, you cannot continue your itinerary without seeing its amazing surroundings, a see of olive trees extent to the infinity and remind the visitor the importance of the olive oil for its region, so we highly recommend visiting an “almazara” (oil press factory).

You can enjoy the autumn with your motorhome in the lovely city of Baeza by spending the night in the local motorhome area (located only 600 meters away from the city center).

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Its historic center has the declaration of a Historic-Artistic Complex, and there is no wonder why. As you can see this place is full of history and traditions, but it has much more to offer to its visitors. Surrounded by natural parks like la comarca de las 5 villas, las Bárcenas Reales, or la Sierra de Santo Domingo this place is truly a treat for its visitors.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Sepúlveda (Segovia, Castilla y León)

The Iron Age, Rome, Visigothic culture, Muslim rule, and the Middle Ages have left indelible marks in this Segovian municipality. The visitor will be glad to discover that Sepúlveda is one of the centers of the Natural Parl Hoces del Río Duratón. In this protected space we can find three environments: In the upper part, forests of junipers and junipers; The bottom of the canyon is occupied by willows, poplars, and alders; Finally, the vertical walls of the ravines support very peculiar vegetation adapted to the rocks. However, the incredible nature offered by this Natural Park is not the only thing that this part of Spain can offer, the visitor can visit the hermitage of San Frutos and the ruins of the monasteries of Nuestra Señora de la Hoz. Furthermore, of these spectacular surroundings, Sepúlveda’s city center has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site. Here you can admire the first Romanesque church built in the province, the Iglesia de El Salvador, the 12th century, or the sanctuary of Santa María de la Peña.

With a free motorhome área of 7 spots, visiting Sepúlveda has never been easier.

When we talk about Alicante one always thinks about Benidorm, beautiful beaches, the iconic castle of Santa Bárbara in Alicante capital city, but the experienced traveler knows that this region of Spain has much more to offer to its visitors. From charming little villages to wonderful beaches and spectacular mountains, we ensure you that you will not be disappointed. So, fasten your seat belts and enjoy today’s route through the most beautiful villages in Alicante.

Discover Alicante with your motorhome

Park and visit Denia

The first stop in our journey is Denia, this village is the capital of Marina Alta and has much more than just beautiful beaches. Do you want to know more? Then keep reading! The fisherman tradition of this place is impregnated in every little corner, so what a better way of starting our journey than by checking out the port and the fish market of Baix la Mar. Putting behind us this side of the town we recommend you to visit the castle, and them keep walking to the old town, in this side of Denia one must explore the church of San Antonio de Padua, the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. If you have some extra time, and you are traveling with kids the Toy Museum is a great activity, if this museum is not your thing and you prefer something more adventurous you can always go for a hike to the Natural Park of Montgó.

Los Llanos campsite is a great option for those who want to explore the Denia while still being able to enjoy its beaches.

Park and visit Jávea

Jávea has so much to offer to the visitors that it is hard to prioritize all the sightseeing and activities. But, first things firsts, you should start your visit with the fortified church of San Bartolomé has been declared a national monument and there is no wonder why. Surrounding San Bartolomé one can find the town hall and the local food market. Moving on to our next attraction, the port, in here just let the sea breeze full up your lungs and enjoy the beautiful views that the Cape of San Antonio offers. In case you have some extra time checking out the viewpoint of Creu de Portixol is an amazing option, since it offers some of the best views of the city, and the Natural Park of Mazico Montgó.

You can spend the night in the free parking area that is located in the vicinity of the lighthouse, and it is only 4 km away from the city center.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Altea

Located at the top of a hill, surrounded by the Algar river, and protected by the Sierra de Bernia. As soon as you set foot in the cobbled streets of this you will be able to feel the reminiscences of its Arab past and distinguish three main areas: The first one is located the seashore, in here you will find the beautiful coastal promenade, the port, and the fish market; The second one, expands around the town hall and has a much more commercial feeling; The third one, is the old quarter of Altea, a neighborhood that is dominated by the blue domes of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, once you reach the top you will be rewarded with some of the most beautiful views in the whole city. So, go ahead and start wandering, discover this beautiful town by enjoying the calmness of its streets and the jolliness of its locals.

You can spend the night in the Camper Park San Antonio, which has 50 parking slots and a fee of 17€ per night (water change is included).

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Polop de la Marina

We can define Polop de la Marina with just three words: Strenght, struggle, and olive-trees. Located in the central area of Marina Baja, and guarded by the mountain range of Monte Ponoig of almost 2,000 meters and the rivers of Guadalest and Algar, the visitor will see how this town of Iberian origins was once an impregnable territory. However, this place has much more to offer than just a constant history of conflict and struggle, surrounded by hundreds of pine and olive trees, its visitors will be delighted by the church of San Pedro, the sanctuary of the Divine Autora, the ruins of its castle and the medieval city walls among others. So, as you can see Polop de la Marina combines amazing nature, with a rich history, and beautiful architecture. Are you going to miss it?

If you decide to visit this wonderful town, we recommend the motorhome area of Terra Natura in Benidorm, just a merely 20 minutes’ drive, has 40 parking spots, and a fee that starts at 12€ per night and includes water change and wifi.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Agres

Our next stop is for the nature lovers because Agres is a little village full of charms. But first things first, did you know that this town is guarded by the mountain range of Mariola and that besides the beautiful landscape, the visitor can find the Cava Gran de Agres or wrongfully called the Cava Arquejada, which is nonetheless that a snow pit which dates back to the 15th century, and that has become the main attraction of this natural park. Putting aside all the natural wonders that one can encounter in this place, Agres can offer its visitor a wide range of activities, from its gastronomy and local traditions to several architectonic gems. We recommend visiting the sanctuary of La Virgen del Castillo, and doing the route of its several fountains: the Mig, the Fonteta, the Barxeta, the Raval or the Convent among others.

With less than a 40 minutes’ drive, you can spend the night in the Castalla motorhome area, which has 9 parking slots and a fee of 3€.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Biar

Did you know that it took 6 months for Jaime I to defeat the back them Moorish city of Biar during the reconquest? If you did not know, once you visit this town you will understand why. With its monumental castle standing at the top a hill, from which you can see every little corner of the Vinalopó valley, this town was a stronghold of the al-Ándalus reign. Throughout the whole city, the visitors can experience its important medieval pasts, some of the finest examples are the arches of San Roque and Jesús, the old gates of Játiva and Castilla, and even the remains of the medieval walls. Additionally, and on the outskirts of town, you can always visit the 17th-century sanctuary of La Virgen de Gracia and the aqueduct of Ojival which dates back to the 15th century.

Visiting Biar is easy you can spend the night in the Alfafara Caper Park which is only a 30 minutes’ drive and has an 18 € fee including water change, sewage drain, and chemical toilet drain.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Sax

The last stop of our journey is a real treat. The mountains as a background, this town full of narrow and meandering streets, cannot hide its Moorish origins. Through the city, one will be able to see perfect examples of medieval houses, some beautiful religious buildings like the church of La Asunción, or the hermitage of San Blas. However, it is its castle the one that claims all the attention to the visitors, standing at the top of a boulder, and presiding the whole valley with its enormous towers its one of the three main fortresses of the Vinalopó valley. Sax is also a perfect match for those who are looking for some nature, La Torre or El Plano offer the perfect landscapes for the hike enthusiasts.

You can spend the night in the Asociación Amigos de Acampada Campo Alegre which is free.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Although its landscapes and coast are of a breathtaking beauty, Galicia has much more to offer to its visitors.

Traveling across this region means wandering through forests, rivers, and discovering roads that end in villages that are full of charm. For these reasons and much more enjoying Galicia is always easy. So, in this post we present to you 6 towns that seem to be frozen in time and that immediately take you to the Middle Ages. Are you ready to explore Galicia with your motorhome?

The most beautiful towns in Galicia by motorhome

Park and visit Santiago de Compostela

Before discovering the little villages that will transport you to the Middle Ages, we need to make a stop on what we consider the star of this trip, Santiago de Compostela.

By reaching the Plaza del Obradoiro and accessing the impressive cathedral you can hear the nervous steps of the pilgrims that come to the realization that their journeys comes to an end. However, this city has much more to offer than just Saint Santiago’s tomb, in its historic center you can found a busting food market, the baroque Casa del Cabildo or the neoclassical Raxoi Pazo. Of course, you can also discover numerous places of religious worship such as: The San Martiño Pinario monastery, collegiate churches, and convents. Another option for those who have a little more of time, is taking a stroll through the Alameda Park, and admire the whole city from its viewpoint.

You can enjoy the beautiful city of Santiago by staying in the Salgueriños of Santiago de Compostela motorhome area, and taking the bus line 1 which will lead you straight to the city center. The area has a rate of 12€ per night and a total of 80 parking spots. If you need to change water you can do it by an additional price of 3€.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Ponte Maceira

Do you want to visit a beautiful town that has been frozen in time? Them Ponte Maceira was made for you.

At both sides of the river you can find several manor houses that stand out for the use of traditional masonry techniques. However, the true gems of this village are the expectacular 12th century medieval bridge, the chapel and the Pazo. So by walking through this place, you will be able to understand the true essence of Galicia, since its charming cobbled streets, surrounding forests, and traditional architecture will bring you the tranquility and serenity that one can only achieve on the countryside.

You can spend the night in the Negreira motorhome area (just 10 minutes ways), which is free and is located next to the Civil Guard barracks.

Google Maps. GPS COORDINATES:

Park and visit Combarro

This small village in the Rías Baixas, has been declared Place of Cultural Interest, and is a perfect representative of three architectural elements in Galicia: «Hórreos» (raised granaries), to see them you only need to go to the seaside; «Casa marineras» (sailor houses), which with their narrow arcades and balconies, they represent a true example of traditional architecture; Crossroads, usually located in squares or street crossing, they are famous becuase they have the peculiarity that the ones with a figure of a Virgin are always facing the sea, while the ones with a Christ to land.

Tui has one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Galicia, Santa María de Tui. The temple stands on a hill from which we can see both sides of the river Miño and even part of the Portuguese city of Valença de Minho.

In this municipality the Miño river reigns, but nature lovers will also have to make a stop in theMonte Aloia Natural Park, since in here they can find vestiges of the first civilizations to occupy these territories.
Park and visit Alhama

Nature has been generous to the town of Alhama, a municipality with landscapes of great ecological value and enormous biodiversity. It is true that the town has interesting man-made monuments, but perhaps the most important one is Los Tajos, a set of canyons and sandstone pits created by the erosion of the Alhama river. Nature aside, the city has an urban area classified as a historical complex, in which its three neighborhoods stand out on its own: La Joya (the most modern of the three), La Placeta (for leisure time), and Las Calles Bajas (of Arab origin). Here you can also find some gems like the Iglesia de la Encarnación, the Hospital de la Reina (Queen’s Hospital), the Wamba, the dungeons or the Devil’s stairs. Only two kilometres outside the municipality in the direction of Granada, you can find an Arab bath that is one of the best preserved examples from the Andalusian period.

The Granada Motorhome Area, which has 12 free parking slots, and a maximum authorized stay of 48 hours is perfect if you want to visit this town.

Park and visit Órgiva

Órgiva is the capital of La Alpujarra, and its rich landscape is one of its greatest strengths, as it is located in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. But let’s begin our journey throughout the city be focusing on the urban area, specifically in the traditional Barrio Alto. In here you must visit the hermitage of San Sebastián, a simple construction of Visigoth origins which holds the resting place of the local patron, so don’t be fooled by its size or simplicity, because this place is a key element for the city. If you are looking for something less modest, you must take a look at the church of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación. High and powerful, it stands out for the decorations on its door and for regal façade of its twin towers. Since Órgiva is the capital of La Alpujarra, here you can find some exquisite examples of the traditional architecture, in the city centre you will see long arcades with smooth walls and straight ceilings. On the outskirts of the town you can see the remains of the 11th century castle, and the masion of the Molino de Benizalte.

You can spend the night in the Campsite of Órgiva, which it is a kilometer and a half from the center, opens all year round, and has a rate of 13 euros.
